Lafayette photographer Anne-Marie Auer’s background in dance, fashion, and travel enlighten her work as a film photographer. Anne-Marie began her artistic career and witnessed her first professional photoshoot as the head intern for Acadiana Fashion Week in November 2019. Within this space, Anne-Marie cultivated a sense of photography as the integration of movement of the model, the design of the artist, and architecture of the stylist to make a single statement of meaning. Anne-Marie graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in December 2020, with much of her last two years dedicated to ballet and aerial arts. During her ballet studies, Anne-Marie refined her awareness of alignment and movement as she observed pre-professional ballerinas in her classes. Anne-Marie brings this experience into her shoots as she poses people and in her vision for landscapes, often capturing the port de bras of  treelines. Anne-Marie’s time as an aerialist has refined her sense of alignment without reference in film photography. Just as she cultivated her sense of alignment in aerial without reference to a mirror, Anne-Marie demonstrates a deep awareness of alignments within a shot without the benefit of seeing it prior to development. Lastly, Anne-Marie’s vast experience as a solo-traveler enlightens her photography deeply. Her travels have made her keenly aware of the diversity of the human and natural modes of expression and being. Much of her film photography seeks to share awe-inspiring spaces that have truly become her “friends” because of the intimate time spent with the space in solitude and stillness. From all these experiences, Anne-Marie has cultivated the power of sensitivity and discernment for moments where light, nature, history, and architecture demand and conspire to be captured through film. Anne-Marie began film photography in 2021 and continues to experiment with film to develop her craft and grow in deeper appreciation for this delicate and authentic medium.
